Report on Smart Village Visit

The great aim of education is not knowledge but action. – Herbert Spencer

Indeed, the statement is true. It is to bring a change that people are educated and as educated people it is our duty to educate others. But, educating them alone cannot bring about the required change in the society. If a nation has to progress, then all the citizens of the nation should walk in the path of progress. We as students can help the society by creating this path of progress. Center for Social Action(CSA) is one such forum where we not only hear to the pains of people but also help them to progress and live a life like ours. The knowledge of Computer is very essential in today’s world. Knowing how to operate a computer is not a luxury anymore but it is a need. There are many people even today who have not even seen a computer. Computers are also used in many educational applications and are used in automation by which we can help these people lead a better life.
Paul Sebastian(5BTCS) and I, Arjun Kashyap(3BTCS) accompanied by our in-charge faculty Mr. Pradeep Kumar, visited two villages in the Kolar district to survey them and come to a conclusion on making these villages Smart. A Smart Village is the one which is self-sufficient having people who are conscious about their environment. During our visit we came across the various difficulties faced by these people and were also amused by the zeal and the wit of these people. One common observation we made was that all of them wanted to learn.
We started at 6:30 a.m in the morning of 23rd July, 2016 to visit these villages and survey them. The journey was fun and interesting as we discussed about various ideas on making the villages smart, it was not until we visited them that we got to know the requirements of the villages. At around 10:40 a.m we reached our base camp situated at Yeldur(Hobli)Kolar District, we didn’t waste any time as we were very excited to know about these villages. Accompanied by Mr. Shiva Kumar, the assistant project officer of CFCD, CSA, we visited our first village. Kannampalli was the first village that we visited, where we met Mr. Manjunath who was the facilitator. He explained to us about the various difficulties present in the village. We also started our survey on the educational background, internet facilities and other technical aspects of the village. The village has 45 families in total. We were very much touched by the hospitality of the villagers and it was an amazing experience to meet such wonderful people.

At around 1:30 p.m we returned to the base camp after finishing the survey of Kannampalli. We had our lunch at the base camp and started our journey towards the second village. The second village that we visited was Beraganahalli of SrinivaspuraTaluk, this village had better facilities compared to the previous one. This village has 150 families. The village has two animators :Muniratnamma and Renuka, who explained to us various difficulties faced by the villagers, the educational qualification of people in the village. We started off our survey by checking the satellite dish connections and the internet connection available in the village. We were amazed to hear that two house in the village also had internet connections.
At around 5:00 p.m we finished our survey of the two villages and returned back to Bangalore. Although we wanted to spend another day with the wonderful people of the villages, we had our schedules preplanned due to which we had to return. We also did make many plans to make the villages smart and discussed about the feasibility of the plans.
